Do's and Don'ts
Do's
  • Take only official taxis (yellow and red colour with registration numbers on the front doors) or transport buses;
  • Be accompanied by a guide or a reliable person who speaks the local language and knows the town;
  • Avoid nighttime inter-urban wanderings in the dark;
  • Be careful when going out alone at night; 
  • Always wear a helmet when taking moto-taxis (Zémidjan), and warn the driver to avoid going too fast.
Don'ts
  • Do not carry precious objects (watches, jewels, etc.) or large amounts of money in public areas such as markets.
  • Avoid strolling in areas or urban zones not much frequented.
  • Do not hitch-hike and do not pick up hitch-hikers, especially at night.
  • Do not resist during an attack, for the aggressors do not hesitate to resort to violence!
  • Do not eat at the roadside.
  • Beware of hawkers (door-to-door salesmen).
